Face detection is a computer technology being used in a variety of applications that identifies human faces in digital images.]Face detection also refers to the psychological process by which humans locate and attend to faces in a visual scene.(source:wiki)

As, we will check on google we will come across many definitions, but it's more than just detecting your faces.

Companies like facebook enable you to tag your friends by detecting the face, companies like Tik Tok enable you to create certain effects with your face using face recognition technology.

What is Face Recognition System?
A System which is capable of identifying a particular person from a photo is called Face Recognition System. It includes two types:
  • Face Matching
  • Face Tagging
Working of this system depends on too many factors such as face color, hair color, width & height of face, spectacles, facial hair etc.
This can be represented in an array like this:
A lot of development in this algorithm is going on. Many top level organizations conduct global level competitions where participants present unique ideas likewise.

On Facebook, when you upload a photo the system detect and measure the faces. We have different measurements for the nose bridges, the eyelids and the width of lips. The combined measurements will become a face print. The face print will be used to identify the users. When you upload a photo and the Facebook finds a match of the face prints of different users and it notifies you to tag a friend.

Samsung Intelligent Scan

Samsung was the first to pack advanced facial recognition technologies into a top-tier flagship with iris scanning technology inside the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7. The technology stuck around inside the Galaxy S8 and new Note 8, which forms part of Samsung’s security suite alongside a broader face recognition system and fingerprint options.
Samsung’s iris scanning technology works by identifying the patterns in your irises. Just like fingerprints, these are unique to each person, making them very difficult to replicate. To do this, Samsung’s latest flagships are equipped with an infrared diode that illuminates your eyes regardless of the surrounding lighting conditions. This light wavelength can’t be detected by a regular front-facing camera, so a special infrared narrow focus camera then captures the detailed iris information. This image is then stored and processed locally on the device, nothing is sent via the internet.
